S.M.A.R.T. Summer Literacy Program

The Learning Lab’s SMART Summer is a six-week intensive literacy program designed for smart students who are a year or more behind in reading and/or writing.

Using S.M.A.R.T. Goals and the F.I.T.T. Principle, one SMART Summer, at The Learning Lab, can change a lifetime!

The Learning Lab’s SMART Summer is helpful for students who are:

  • At risk for or diagnosed with Dyslexia
  • Diagnosed with a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) or a disability is suspected
  • Diagnosed with a Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD)/Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
  • Significantly struggling with phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency
  • Significantly struggling with reading comprehension, working memory and critical thinking
  • Significantly struggling with grammar, sentence structure and essay writing

Each child’s SMART Summer protocol is designed to meet their individual learning needs. All Learning Lab programs are based on best practices and the neuroscience of successful reading acquisition. Some of the programs we use are:

Week 1: June 15th – June 19th
Week 2: June 22nd – June 26th
Week 3: June 29th – July 3rd
Week 4: July 13th – July 17th
Week 5: July 20th – July 24th
Week 6: July 27th – July 31st

SMART Summer Timeline

*All dates for placement screening and enrollment deadlines have been extended

  1. New students must complete an initial Placement Screening to determine their Learning Profile prior to April 10, 2020. The cost of a Placement Screening is not included in the SMART Summer tuition. Establishing a Learning Profile includes the following steps:
    • Parent phone interview (Approximately 30 minutes)
    • Document review (You will be provided a list of required documentation)
    • Student interview and benchmark assessments at The Learning Lab (Approximately 2.5-3 hours)
    • Parent meeting at The Learning Lab (Approximately 1 hour)
  2. Current students and/or returning students must submit their SMART Summer Registration Forms and any updated documents prior to April 10, 2020.
  3. Admission decisions will be released by April 29, 2020.
  4. A signed SMART Summer Agreement and initial payment will be due on or before May 1, 2020.
  5. A second payment will be processed on June 1, 2020.
  6. The Learning Lab’s SMART Summer begins on June 15, 2020.
  7. The Learning Lab will be closed from July 6th – July 10th,
  8. The final payment will be processed on July 1, 2020.
  9. The last day of SMART Summer 2020 is July 31, 2020. Please plan to join us that day for a SMART Summer Accomplishment Celebration and Acknowledgement Ceremony from 11:30 a.m.– 12:00 p.m.
